It begins when I first learned to read and I absolutely hated it. I hated every word in the book “Go Dog Go”. I vividly remember crying while trying to learn to read it, which is of course kind of funny now.
Then comes 2nd grade where I wrote a little short story and won in my grade and got to go to a local college with all the other kids who won.
After that not much else happened except my hate for reading faded and I began to enjoy it.
During middle school I read all the time and really found a safe place in my books.
And finally in 10th grade I think all my reading paid off because my English teacher really encouraged my writing and had the faith in me to put me in an AP English class from a regular English class. 10th grade I really first felt like I could write and I could feel the ease that came with it.
In 11th grade I took my writing and combined it with my love for politics and entered an essay contest in which I took second. I was told that because of my controversial choice of topic in my essay (Black lives matter and kneeling for the flag) that it would not go far within the Veterans of foreign wars and I should rather look into getting it published which I took as a greta compliment.
And now we are in present day, I am an English major and so far am really enjoying it!
